UTAR Convocation 2011 - A Malaysian Graduation Experience

Picture 1 - Morning has broken over KL city - It's a bright new day!

Today, I shall put aside my gardening tales to share with you a memorable occasion in my life. Please click on the video at the end of the post to listen to the selected song. I hope you like this song too.

I hope you can tell me about your experiences too. Did you go to a photo studio to have your family potraits taken or was the event/photo session held in the outdoors?

Picture 2 - MCA Building
Sunday, March 20th, was UTAR Convocation Day 2011 and my 22 year-old daughter's graduation day.

It was a nostalgic feeling for my hubby and I because many years ago, we also attended our convocation ceremony in the same building. I was walking down memory lane again. How time flies. It seems like it was only yesterday when we were standing there hand-in-hand in front of this building, broad smiles on our faces .....

Now we have to accept that fact that our little baby is all grown-up, ready to spread her wings and fly out into the big, wide world with only the skies as her limits.

Picture3 - Flowers can speak a thousand words and melt a million hearts.

I should not have worried my head off earlier about the gifts as I can see that they have many choices of instant flowers bouquets available at the venue. There were gerberra daisies, sunflowers, roses and asiatic lilies, also teddy bears and Ferraro Roche chocolates. The prices were quite reasonable too.

Professional photographers had set up an instant photo studio near the entrance of the building, complete with backdrops for family potraits. People from outstation will find it useful and time-saving.

There are miracles in life I must achieve,
But first I know it starts inside of me.....*

Picture 7

If I can see it, then I can do it.
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it.*

Just before the convocation ceremony started, the graduants stood up and bowed to their parents who were seated as a sign of gratitude.

Picture 8

I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I'm leaning on the everlasting arms...*

Picture 9

I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly
I believe I can soar.... *

Picture 10

All for one and one for all
My brother and my friend
What fun we have
The time we share
Brother-sister 'til the end.

Hey, if I just spread my wings, I can fly!*

Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

I believe I can touch the sky!*

compared to what lies within us.

Thank you very much for the congratulatory messages and for sharing your own experience here with me. Phew! After 15 years in the normal school system, this is the first milestone.

Yes, indeed a bitter-sweet experience. Grown up as she is now, but she will always be a kid in her parents' eyes. Thank God she has found a job. Currently she is back home with us, Yay!

  22. Congratulations to the proud parents and the very loved daughter! This post for the first born is so touching, i almost shed a tear. True, i have some soft spot for very loving family relationships. I've graduated many times and only the BS had my parents with me. The next 2 i was alone. I intended to have a special foto for my last graduation, inside an expensive studio, but i still havent done it after many years. I guess i will not do it anymore as i've grown a lot from that time. I feel that you are a very good mother, and you should be saluted for that!

I remember many years ago when talking with a doctor friend, and he said (I paraphrase), your reward for being a good parent is letting them go. Blessings to you and your family.
