  4. Stunning photos, Autumn Belle. I'm not familiar with orchid names and these dark pinks aren't a common sight here. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Beautiful orchids Belle! Especially the ones that are light-purple with yellow edges. Are these Vanda? Somehow the pedals look a little narrower than regular Vanda. ~Sandy on Cloud 9

  11. gorgeous orchids! I love that sort of magenta and yellow one.

I only had an orchid once, and allowed it to slowly die. But while it was around, it was great! It was dark maroon with tiny yellow freckles and the flowers were small. It was also chocolate scented!

  13. Rosey, thank you very much for the compliments. I am using an Olympus FE-4000 with 12Mp to snap these pictures. This lower range camera has macro mode so that I can snap closeup pictures of the flowers. It also panorama view for group photos. I still feel that I get sharper pictures with my old Olympus C-3000 Zoom, but this old thing is quite bulky.

Flowergirl, Kanak, LeSan, Mary Delle, Bangchik, Rainfield, Tootsie, Catherine, Stephanie. Thank you very much for the compliments, my dear friends.

Barry, I think these orchids look more like dendrobiums than vandas, just like what Andrea commented. Yes, the orchids are growing on the soil, except the first one which is hanging from a pole. I have seen many similar orchids grown on the soil at the Dong Zen Buddhist Temple too. I have never grown them this way too. You are very observant!

Sandy, I am not really sure about the name, especially the second picture because it was only labelled as 'orchids' at The Secret Garden. However, I tend to agree with Andrea that it is dendrobium, except the 2nd one which looks like Phalaenopsis

Andrea, thank you very much for helping me name the orchids. The Secret Garden is located on the roof-top of 1-Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya. It is about 15min drive from KL in smooth traffic. I would highly recommend you to visit this place the next time you come to KL.

Wendy, you only had an orchid once, but you can still remember it well. Must be quite a beautiful orchids. Malaysia has many rare orchids as native plants.

Until then, cheers to all of you!

  14. Beautiful flowers.
We have had a difficult time growing orchids, which is unfortunate, as they are cat-friendly flowers.

  15. Hi Autumn Belle, what a wonder to have orchids in the ground. I see vandas and dendrobiums among them, I think. The second shot is vanda foliage and flower, others are dendrobiums. I am no expert though! They are all so beautiful whatever they are. :-)

  17. Catsynth, thank you for the visit and comments.

Frances, now after I checked the images from the internet, the 2nd orchid looks more like a vanda than a phalaenopsis.

Hey, everyone, actually there is one more orchid I forgot to tell you. In the last picture, the yellow orchid is oncidium or dancing lady. Somehow, its little flowers are overshadowed by the showy bi-colour dendrobium.

  18. I'd like to add that The Secret Garden of 1-U here uses granulated horticultural carbon (which is a form of charcoal) for the soil.

  19. Joops, actually I didn't grow these orchids. Dr. Francis Ng did. He is an award wining consultant botanist.
