I have never seen this hibiscus variety before. Double bloom? Interesting, is this a hybrid?
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed and interesting type of Hibiscus, its like a two-in-one flower.
ReplyDeleteDiana and Solitude Rising, it is an intermediate form that looks like a cross between Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and Hibiscus schizopetalus.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are semi-pendulous and petals semi-fringed.
When I first saw it I thought it was a 2-in-1 flower with single (bottom) and double (top) flower petal arrangements. I also thought it looked like a lion's head.
The origin of this species is uncertain. Burkill, the English botanist says that it is a result of hybridisation between H. rosa-sinensis and H. schizopetalus. Another theory says that it is an extreme form of the ancient H. rosa-sinensis. (info from Dr. Francis Ng's book)
beautiful..love that second one especially.
ReplyDeleteThat is so lovely, is that yours too? I saw an orange hibiscus with that style of flower form, but not noticed not all flowers in the same plant have the same tiered form. What about in that plant? I am about to post it last time, but when i am about to post it, i saw you just had posted the orange one that same day, so i aborted my post. If only the variegated one will flower like that, it must be more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat is double joy. :)
ReplyDeleteThis plant is growing at the Ditch Garden in my neighbourhood. The flowers from the same plant look the same here. I have photographed them at different angles. I think the flowers are very odd and unique, a double delight, like Indrani says.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. I don't I've ever seen this type of flower before.
ReplyDeleteHappy #WW & don't forget to share your linky over at my blog :)
Wow twins! What a great pair.
ReplyDeleteI never seen this variety before! They look so pretty - double layer flowers!
ReplyDeleteDazediva, Bananaz, Malar, I'm sure these are unique and will be great conversation material for the garden visitors.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen such hibiscus here, they are so pretty and unique!

It is a wonderful flower - such a beautiful colour.
ReplyDeleteNow that is a stunner! Great color!
ReplyDeleteHi Autumn Belle! Lovely flowers you got there! I got a similar hibiscus but with a lighter hue and just learned that it is called a "pagoda". Thanks! Be happy.
ReplyDeleteThis is probably actually the hybrid Hibiscus x 'El Capitolio', there is also a Salmon form of El Capitolio as well.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, it does look like the Red El Capitolio Hibiscus. My grateful thanks to the information!
