Floribunda Rose - Eternal Flame

I have a confession to make. I have fallen in love with ROSES!

From this month of October 2011 onwards, I will be posting roses from Floria 2011 on an off. The roses I have selected for my blog posts are based on those with proper labels.

As I learn more and more about roses, I'd like to share the knowledge with you. You are also invited to share your knowledge and experience with me. Please feel free to point out any mistakes or error I have made.

“Floribunda Rose - Eternal Flame”, a copyrighted post, was written for My Nice Garden blog by Autumn Belle @ http://www.mynicegarden.com/ on October 7th, 2011.

Floribundas are a group of modern roses developed from crossing hybrid tea roses with Rose multiflora or polyantha roses. As I know they are shrubs and bushes.

What do you know about Floribundas? Please tell me more!

"Roses have thorns, and silver fountains mud;
Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun,
And loathsome canker lies in sweetest bud.
All men make faults.”
..... Willian Shakespeare.

I love roses but grow very few varieties at home because they have thorns. I used to select those without thorns or I will patiently cut away the thorns one by one from the branches.

That's why I am growing more hibiscus than roses in my garden. However, I am adding more and more rose varieties as their beauty is really too much to resist!

or you can rejoice because thorns have roses"

Update: What's happening to Google and Blogger?

This message is driving me crazy:

"We are sorry, but we were unable to complete your request.

The following errors were found:
Input error: Cookie value is null for FormRestoration"

It is appearing on some of my favourite blogs and because of this, I can't leave comments until the problem is solved or Google/Blogger is back to its normal self !!!

  1. Never been patient enough to cut the thorns off a branch, but I am always thrilled when I find a rose that's almost thornless. Eternal Flame is very pretty. I'm glad you've fallen for roses!

  2. Yes, I do that! But cannot finish the job because there are still so many thorns. Most of the thornless varieties I have grow thorns eventually anyway. But I still like to cut off the thorns from the roses :>)

  3. When i am coming to the office these morning i saw some very beautiful hibiscus, and i immediately thought of giving them to you! However, you already found another love in roses, which is not a common sight around here. They are more special. But at home my mother has the thornless type, but it doesn't have scent. I prefer the scent than the thorns, so i guess i must have the thorns to get the scent! I also love those young colored leaves of roses. It is just difficult to care for.

  4. Roses are beautiful, but I think it's the scented ones that really draw me in! I've heard florabunda roses are more hardy. Have fun with your new plant addiction!

  6. Roses are so beautiful! Like Indie I prefer the scented ones. I should educate myself on roses too, specially when and how to prune them. Enjoy your roses and keep writing about them :)

  7. Your roses are gorgeous! I love roses too and have dedicated a pathway to them in my gardens, a rose for each child... one they picked out for me. Wen I walk the path, I am reminded of each of my beautiful children. (Thank you for your sweet comment on my Butterfly Dreams Finale Autumn Belle, I enjoyed reading it.)

  8. My mother loves roses too! She call it "muwei kuwei". I always cut my rose blooms for her and it really makes her day! There was this day that I forgot to cut a bloom...she cut it herself and placed it on her dress as an accessory! I like your photos too. :)

  10. Andrea, I'd love to have the hibiscus anytime as I regard them as roses anyway. When you go back to the province, do take a picture of your mom's roses. The leaf shoots of my roses are copper red (?)in colour. Roses need a lot of attention in our climate.

Indie, I love the scented roses too.

Nayana, I like this colour too - peachy pink?

DJ, you are right. Pruning will encourage more shoots and more blooms.

Carolyn, I like your idea very much. So nice to dedicate a rose for each child!

Bananaz, thanks for the kind mention. I use to have a 'chicken shit fruit' tree in my village home. This fruit will always remind me of my childhood days.

  11. I appreciate a rose when I see one. Most of the time I pause for a moment and take the time to smell it and get a little disappointed if it has no scent.

For some reason I could not explain, there are plants/flowers I appreciate and find beautiful but not very keen on growing them in our garden and the rose is one of them.

  12. Twoja róż ma piękny kolor. Róże mają kolce, bo nie chcą być obcinane do wazonu, wolą żeby na nie patrzeć w ogrodzie :-). Pozdrawiam

  13. Your roses are gorgeous. I love them because they continue to bloom in the autumn, long after the first frost and well into November. Like DJ, I prefer the fragrant roses as well.

I had the same problem with Blogger for just one day... I have not had any problems since. If I have a problem leaving a comment on a Blogger blog that I am reading on Blotanical, which happens about a third of the time now (down from almost always), I just click "Read Blog in New Tab" (top left on the blue bar on top. It opens the blog in its own tab and I can leave a comment there and go back to the original tab to "pick". Crafty Gardener taught me that trick and it has made commenting and picking easy.

  15. Solitude Rising, I agree with you 100% and me too!

Giga says "Your roses have a beautiful color. Roses have thorns, because I do not want to be cut into a vase, they prefer to look at it in the garden :-)." Me too, Giga, I think the roses in my garden are too precious to be cut and place into a vase. I let the dried flower heads hang on for a long time on the plant, hoping for a miracle that they turn into rose hips! Of course they never did :(

Cathy and Steve, the roses in this post are photographed at Floria 2011, a flower show. Wow, if only I have them in my garden, I'd be on Cloud 9. Thanks for the crafty tips.

    Magia says "° ° Hello, friend! . ♥.

    ˚. ˚ Good weekend!
    ♥ • ˚. Kisses.
    • ˚. Brazil" - Thanks Magia, you too!

Giga and Magia, I love the fact that you always comment in Polish and Portugese. Yay, Yay, makes my blog more 'colourful'. Now, this is from me in Malay - your turn to use Google Translate ;>)

  16. Autumn I know what you mean. I have also loved roses but refused to grow them because of their thorns.

Last year I changed my thoughts about roses and decided instead, that I would only collect a few and arm myself with thorn proof garments Lol!

I love that peachy orange colored rose...Nice post.

  20. Vetsy, you fell into the trap. Many gardeners do. It was a wise decision anyway :>)

Malar, remember to prune off the dead flower heads and fertilize. Roses are attention grabbers, but attention seekers too!

Tatjana and Arash, Welcome to MNG! Glad you like these roses.
