Spiders in Camouflage

Some insects like spiders are very clever. They hide under a camouflage, concealing themselves by blending in with the environment. Because they are usually at the lower end of the food chain, by doing so will prevent them from being eaten by their predators. Can you spot the spider among the juicy leaves in the picture above?

When you look closer, you will find a beautiful spider like the one in the picture on the right.

This one on the left is even better. It has earth tones that blend perfectly with the background paint of my backyard wall.

Isn't he clever? He's playing hide-and-seek here.

Garden spiders are valuable predators that feed on our enemies, the pests insects. They are not vegetarians i.e. they do not eat our plants. But, they eat insects! Yes! Yahoo! They are important agents of biological pest control.

  1. The yellow guy is cute, but the last one... a bit scary! My boys would love to see them!

  2. Great pictures. I'm not crazy about spiders, but like you say they do eat bugs, so we let them stay. What's creepy is walking into a web.

  4. Tatyana, Flowergirl, Bangchik. Yes, back in the old days, little boys here play with spiders which they collect and keep like pets. They have 'spider fight spider' games. The champion spider will be treated like treasure. My dad and hubby did that but my son's generation doesn't play with spiders anymore.
