Sunset along the highway |
When I was little, I remember asking about the origin of my life with this question "Where did I come from?" Mom told me I came from her stomach. Grandma told me I was picked up from the streets, so whenever I was naughty, she will threaten to send me back to my 'family' which happened to be any beggar or fierce looking person she could point her finger on. Anyway I found the answer in school because sexual reproduction was a lesson we learnt in Science class.
Here's what 'Evolution' and 'Evolve' means to me:
A hen is only an egg's way of making another egg.
..... Samuel Butler
Now, I know that I too, came from an egg.

It is not the strongest of the species that survives,
nor the most intelligent that survives.
It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.
..... Charles Darwin
When Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution came out as an examination question in my Biology paper, I panicked. I knew it was much more than about man and apes.
Evolution is an important word for all living things on Earth. Ugly creatures have a life too. We, the homo sapiens and so called superior, more intelligent beings share the planet with other flora and fauna. All living things compete for survival everyday but we also depend on each other for a healthy co-existence.
“Science
... never solves a problem without creating ten more.”
George Bernard Shaw
Through the years, our actions had caused the destruction and elimination of many species of living organisms, good or bad. There are still many bugs, slimy worms, snakes and other creatures that share the limited food we have, some are on the verge of extinction.
How do we adapt as we evolve?
Romance on a Roselle at Hibiscus Garden, KL |
What is the purpose of life on Earth according to basic instincts?
Sexual reproduction ensures the survival of the next generation of a species.
A solitary ant searching for food A couple of bugs fulfilling the duty of LIFE |
Romance, courtship and reproduction is an important chapter among living organisms. The wise choice of mates ensures that the best genes and traits are passed down to the next generation and the next.
The male produces millions of sperms while the female has limited eggs for fertilisation. It is a natural instinct to screen and select the best mates. The fittest survives.
Even plants need sexual reproduction to mix and match their genes for better progeny and their shapes and structures are cleverly designed to attract pollinators.

it gives life to others as it transforms”

Perfectly placed verses along with your amazing photos. And a great entry in the "evolve" meme!
ReplyDeleteAB, I love the meaningful quotes that you have chosen today to go along with your beautiful photos and 'evolutionary' story.
ReplyDeleteOne Q. How do you know for sure you started from an egg? Who came first? The chicken or the egg? I am of the opinion that there's no beginning.
PlantPostings, thanks!
ReplyDeleteOne, I came from an egg but which comes first, I too know not, haha. Very wise of you!

ReplyDeleteAutumn Belle, you are a bright Homo sapiens specimen! Just like Plant Postings and One, i love your choice of quotes to go with those beautiful photos. I even smiled with them, a nice way to characterize 'Evolution'. So you came from an egg, at least not from the hen, but from an ape! LOL
ReplyDeleteAndrea, yeah I have lost the tail which I don't need now. Well, maybe if I evolve into an avatar, I'll need it again, hehehe.
ReplyDeleteTruly enjoyed going through your Evolution post, Autumn Belle! The quotes and your photos are wonderful! I had stopped by Andrea's blog and read her entry. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your Diwali wishes!:)
Enjoyed reading your thought- provoking post and looking at the great pictures!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos and the moonlight photos are wonderful.

It is funny, but I just saw a logical answer to the proverbial question of the chicken and egg. A scientist explained and posed a question to himself. If birds evolved from reptiles and reptiles lay eggs, it only stands to reason that the first chicken came from an egg! Well, anyway, your post was very philosophical and made be think beyond. Really good job!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post and I love the quotes especially the last one. In all things with evolution we must be aware of how we transform things good and bad...
ReplyDeleteHow I enjoyed your post on evolution which was very thought-provoking and the quotes were amazing, too.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, my brother always told me I was adopted...and he used to threaten to send me back to my 'real' family which, coincidentally, was just like the people your grandmother pointed out. AH, good times....lol.
This was a perfect example of evolution. Life is all about evolution, and we are always giving life and nurturing life. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteWonderful quotes you have between great photos for the posting. May we all keep evolving.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I loved the pictures and the quotes. Very thought provoking.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful thoughts and pictures. I wonder if insects are romantic.
ReplyDeletei recently watched the movie called "creation" about Darwin, worth a watch that one
ReplyDeletelove your first shot of the tree silhoutte and those big rays of gold behind
Maybe grandmothers were taught to be creative in answering "Where did I come from?" questions. My grandmother once said I was found on a water buffalo dung. Deep inside, even now, I think I believe her...LOL
ReplyDeleteI like the dawn (or dusk?) pictures.
Love your nature inspired post and your point of view as to why everything on earth must co-exist.
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
Amazingly gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSky Watch
Beautifully taken!
ReplyDeleteSky Watch at my page, please come and see. Have a nice weekend!
Actually Autumn Belle, you are my twin and were stolen from our family at an early age and sold to the wonderful family who did not tell you your real beginnings. They just wanted you to be happy with them. They taught you creative notions, resulting in this interesting post. It all worked out well.
ReplyDeleteNice sunset,it answered a question people always about the purpose of life.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots! Love that last quotation too.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the sweet comments.
ReplyDeleteKaren, Solitude Rising, nice to know about your similar stories and Nell Jean, your twin story make me smile. Wise words indeed. But then again, having notions is better than hallucinating ;>)
All, so very beautiful!
